Building Information Models
BIM has been hailed as the next generation in building design and record-keeping. Not only are these 3D, parametric models extremely flexible and dynamic, they provide one central location for ALL building data from your floor plans, 3D renderings, area calculations, supplier names to construction schedules and renovation details.
Using BIM, engineers and architects can easily model and implement building retrofits and green designs. Factors such as weather and climate, efficiency ratings of fixtures and energy consumption patterns can now be quickly and efficiently analyzed and above all, your analysis can qualify for energy rebates which can significantly reduce the cost of your building model. BIM is indispensable for buildings striving for LEED certification.
PLANiT uses IFC Certified software to ensure that clients get maximum benefit and utility from our models in the long term. Your BIM will always be custom built to meet your needs. The basic model can be easily enhanced as building information changes and as your business processes require additional detail in the future. No need to buy something that you can’t get full use out of today.
Once a basic BIM is created for your building, PLANiT can run an Energy Audit that will assess the impact of various potential retrofits on your energy costs. The Audit is a highly sophisticated, holistic analysis of the building as a whole, which studies the interaction of the potential changes and how they work together. For example, you will see that if you change your lighting from incandescent to fluorescent bulbs, your energy costs will decrease however, the model will also show you how much your heating costs may increase.
PLANiT’s Energy Audits qualify for rebates from various programs depending on building type. For example, the City of Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership and GreenSaver’s Multifamily Energy Efficiency Rebates program both offer a rebate of $35 per apartment unit for the development of a building Energy Audit that is used in the implementation of at least one of the recommended retrofits.
