The PLANiT story
It all started with a simple tape measure and drawing board. Today, PLANiT boasts cutting edge measuring technology – and an enviable client list.
An easier way to measure
In the early 90’s, civil engineer Mike Laurie worked in the real estate industry, creating residential floor plans for agents and homeowners. To make an accurate floor plan, he had to painstakingly measure each property, using a tape measure and a drawing board.
It was a time-consuming, difficult process – so he decided to create an easier way.
A revolutionary measuring method
Mike combined the latest in laser measuring technology and CAD software with a laptop computer, later progressing to a Tablet PC with voice activation. This innovative, highly portable system, called the MeasuringBoard, turned out to be just what the industry had been looking for.
Major players like Scotiabank and Great West Life were quick to use the fast, accurate new measuring service; the success of the MeasuringBoard system led Mike to form the PLANiT Measuring Company.
Award-winning technology
The MeasuringBoard won the prestigious 2002 TCA Innovative Product and Technology Award (TIPTA), and has received the support of the National Research Council (NRC) and an endorsement from the Toronto Real Estate Board.
Ongoing development
The innovation hasn’t stopped with the MeasuringBoard. PLANiT is committed to ongoing research and development to meet changing industry and client needs. Most recently, we’ve introduced gyroscope technology to measure angles, a global positioning system and a digital compass to establish exact locations and the orientation of building features.
